AI vs AI-s    What's the difference?
Not a lot! The difference is only relevant to how an old Nikon film cameras index, so adapter users can consider AI and AI-s lenses equal, but with one major exception. When Nikon made the change they increased the elements in the 28mm f2.8 to make it the best wide angle lens ever made, so for just this one lens, AI-s is better

So what about pre-AI or non-AI and AI'd?
The quality of Nikon lenses and the strength of their construction pre-AI was superb. However, there were many versions with little standardization and during that era and only a few used the Nikon F mount that our adapters need. So beware when buying pre AI lenses. Take comfort here in that I only carry pre AI lenses that are fully manual focus and have the Nikon F-mount so they will work with your adapter
